Tím stojaci za klientom pre anonymizačnú sieť Tor vydal v stredu novú hlavnú verziu svojho webového prehliadača Tor Browser 7.0.

Tor Browser je prehliadačom zameraným na ochranu súkromia, ktorú dosahuje jednak pripájaním sa na Internet cez anonymizačnú sieť Tor ale tiež využívaním nastavení a rozličných doplnkov zvyšujúcich súkromie bránením identifikácii a sledovaniu užívateľa, napríklad vďaka blokovaniu JavaScriptu a bráneniu vytvorenia jedinečného odtlačku užívateľa.

Tor Browser je balíkom všetkého potrebného softvéru a jeho inštalátor nainštaluje všetky potrebné komponenty vrátane klienta pre Tor a samozrejme správne nastavené.

Prehliadač je založený na Firefoxe. Nová verzia je postavená na Firefoxe 52.1.2 ESR a výrazným zlepšením oproti predchádzajúcim verziám 6.5 je podpora multiprocesového módu e10s. Tá umožňuje vyšší výkon a vďaka izolácii aj bezpečnosť, pričom verzia pre Linux a macOS už plne využíva bezpečnostné izolovanie procesov a u verzie pre Windows sa na tom pracuje.

Nová verzia je postavená tiež na novej verzii Toru 0.3.0.7, tlačidle Torbutton 1.9.7.3, NoScript 5.0.5, HTTPS-Everywhere 5.2.17.

Uskutočnené boli viaceré zlepšenia ochrany pre identifikáciou užívateľa odtlačkami a celkovo sledovania užívateľa, keď boli v tomto zmysle upravené implementácie WebGL 2, WebAudio, Social, SpeechSynthesis a Touch API.

S prechodom na novú verziu Firefoxu prestali byť podporované niektoré staršie počítače, Windows verzia už nepobeží na procesore bez podpory SSE2 a u macOS je vyžadovaná verzia minimálne 10.9. Na Linuxe je pre audio vyžadovaný PulseAudio.

Novú verziu je možné sťahovať zo stránok projektu.
