Debian 12 má byť vydaný v júni

Tvorcovia jednej z najstarších a stále najdôležitejších linuxových distribúcií Debian aktuálne oznámili plánovaný dátum vydania novej hlavnej verzie 12 s kódovým označením Bookworm.

Nová verzia by mala byť vydaná 10. júna.

Debian má silné postavenie najmä na serveroch, zároveň je na ňom postavených množstvo iných distribúcií vrátane Ubuntu a Linux Mint a je tak základom jednej z dvoch hlavných vetiev linuxových distribúcií spolu s vetvou postavenou na distribúciách od Red Hatu.

Priamo Debian je špeciálne obľúbený u dlhoročných a tzv. hardcore používateľov Linuxu.

Distribúcia Debian je konzervatívna, jej stabilná verzia výchadza len raz za dva roky a väčšinu času tak najnovšia stabilná verzia nie je postavená na najnovších verziách softvéru. Zatiaľ posledná verzia Debian 11 Bullseye bola vydaná v auguste 2021.

Verzie Debianu majú v poslednej dobe trojročnú štandardnú podporu, počas ktorej sa opravujú aj iné ako bezpečnostné problémy. Ďalšie dva roky sú podporované LTS tímom, ktorý vydáva už iba bezpečnostné aktualizácie. V prípade posledných verzií je k dispozícii ešte ďalších päť rokov neoficiálna rozšírená bezpečnostná podpora, tzv. Extended LTS, ktorú nezabezpečuje projekt Debianu ale spoločnosť Freexian.
