Tvorcovia populárnej linuxovej distribúcie Ubuntu pred blížiacim sa vydaním novej verzie Ubuntu 20.04 LTS výrazne zoptimalizovali podporu súborového systému ZFS.

Upozornil na to linuxový Phoronix.

Ubuntu 20.04 bude podporovať inštaláciu na pokročilý súborový systém ZFS, hoci štandardnou voľbou zostáva samozrejme použitie Ext4.

Podľa informácií z marca bude Ubuntu 20.04 v prípade inštalácie na ZFS pri aktualizácii operačného systému respektíve pri akýchkoľvek operáciách s balíčkami systémom APT vytvárať snapshoty súborového systému. To sa umožní jednoducho vrátiť k predchádzajúcemu stavu operačného systému najmä v prípade problémov.

Takýmto spôsobom ale vznikne veľký počet snapshotov a doterajšia verzia mala problém s výkonom pri veľkom počte snapshotov. Napríklad načítanie menu trvalo bootloaderu Grub v prípade 100 systémových snapshotov až 80 sekúnd.

Aktuálne optimalizácie vyriešili tieto problémy a načítanie je teraz aj v takomto prípade okamžité.

ZFS je pokročilým copy-on-write súborovým systémom s podporou pre snapshoty, kontrolné sumy zabezpečujúce integritu dát, kompresiu, deduplikáciu, synchronizáciu a ďalšie pokročilé funkcie vrátane integrovaných funkcií správcu zväzkov s podporou redundancie a využívanie viacerých diskov v podobe rozličných RAID režimov.

ZFS On Linux je štandardne zahrnutý a podporovaný v Ubuntu od verzie 16.04, základná experimentálna podpora inštalácie root súborového systému na ZFS pribudla v desktopovej edícii vo verzii 19.10. Pokročilejšia funkčnosť je pridávaná postupne v nástroji Zsys.

Finálna verzia Ubuntu 20.04 LTS je naplánovaná na 23. apríla, ide o LTS verziu s dlhou päťročnou štandardnou podporou a ďalšou päťročnou rozšírenou bezpečnostnou podporou.

Snapshot nezaberá takmer žiaden priestor pokiaľ sa nemenia dáta, takže ich môžem mať koľko chcem. Snapshoty má každá subvolume svoje, takže keď si vytvoríš subvolume pre /home o žiadne dáta neprídeš.
