Gates odporúča pre digitálnu hudbu kupovať CD a ripovať

Bill Gates, najväčší akcionár a predseda správnej rady Microsoftu, na stredajšom stretnutí s viacerými americkými IT-blogermi vyjadril svoj názor na súčasný stav v oblasti Digital Rights Managementu (DRM).

Na otázku Michaela Arringtona, čo si myslí o DRM a jeho budúcnosti, odpovedal, že DRM v súčasnosti spôsobuje veľa komplikácií legitímnym zákazníkom.

"DRM nie je také, ako by malo byť," myslí si Gates.

DRM by podľa Gatesa malo byť flexibilnejšie, jednoduchšie a interoperabilnejšie.

V diskusii o tom, ako by mali užívatelia dnes čo najjednoduchšie získavať legitímne prenositeľnú digitálnu hudbu, Gates povedal: "Ľudia by mali kupovať CD a ripovať ich.", informoval Michael Arrington.

Najpoužívanejším DRM v súčasnosti, čo sa týka počtu služieb a zariadení, je práve DRM od Microsoftu. Viacero majiteľov obsahu striktne vyžaduje od predajcov a distribútorov digitálneho obsahu ochranu DRM od Microsoftu.

Spoločnosť skôr tento rok uviedla svoj mobilný prehrávač Zune, u ktorého ale použila DRM nekompatibilné so svojim existujúcimi PlaysForSure štandardami, za čo je výrazne kritizovaná.
