Nová verzia USB podporuje maximálnu rýchlosť až 120 Gbps

Nová verzia USB označená USB4 2.0 umožní maximálnu rýchlosť až 120 Gbps, ako sme upozorňovali už krátko po oznámení pripravovanej novej verzie v septembri.

Aktuálne to vo svojom oznámení potvrdila organizácia USB Implementers Forum, USB-IF, ktorá informovala o vydaní špecifikácie novej verzie.

Nová verzia bola avizovaná na začiatku septembra. Doterajšia posledná verzie USB, USB4, je postavená na protokole vychádzajúcom z technológie Thunderbolt. Využíva káble typu Type-C s dvomi linkami o rýchlosti 20 Gbps a umožňuje tak spolu prenášať dáta rýchlosťou 40 Gbps v oboch smeroch.

USB4 2.0 zvýši rýchlosť na dvojnásobok, teda 80 Gbps. USB-IF aktuálne zároveň potvrdila, že to bude vďaka prechodu na moduláciu PAM-3.

Ako sme upozornili v septembri na základe podpory asymetrického režimu testovacím hardvérom od spoločnosti Keysight, USB4 2.0 bude podporovať aj asymetrický režim s využívaním troch liniek v jednom smere a jednej v druhom. To umožní v jednom smere rýchlosť 120 Gbps a v druhom 40 Gbps. Aktuálne oznámenie USB-IF to potvrdilo.

Oznámenie tiež opäť naznačuje, že nové dvojnásobné rýchlosti bude možné dosahovať len cez nové aktívne káble, jednoznačne to ale neuvádza. Oznámenie totiž spomína doterajšie 40 Gbps USB Type-C pasívne káble a novodefinované 80 Gbps aktívne USB Type-C káble, bližšie to ale nevysvetľuje.
